As the World Cup
begins in earnest in a few hours, I’ll try to draw an analogy between the importance of teamwork – whether or not you have people working for you – in making your business a success, and the role teamwork plays in contributing to a team’s success.
The Importance of Teamwork
As the World Cup begins, observe how the country with the most skilled players may not necessarily be favourites to win. Victory will more likely come with organisation, teamwork and a little bit of luck. Brazil probably has the best chance of winning the World Cup based on their history – they’ve won more trophies than any other country; the other reason: they’re hosting the event. This is probably the most soccer-mad nation on earth – so they have the passion to boot. Success cannot come without solid teamwork and of course a passionate dedication to a goal – pun unintended 🙂
The same goes for your history or track record as a person and a business owner; if you have tried countless times and failed but learn from and correct your mistakes, you give yourself a much better chance of running a successful business. So, you can change the odds for the better through persistence. The so-called ‘home advantage’ has been known to be a huge deciding factor as to what team becomes victorious at the end of the mundial. I bet the bookies have Brazil as favourites to win; they are profitable because they know their odds: you should too, when considering a business idea. Is it your ‘home turf’? Do you have sufficient expertise in this area?
As you probably already know, this blog post is not so much about predicting outcomes as it is about revealing the similarities between your business and the business of running a successful football team.
So, wherever you’re reading this from, I’ll say good luck to whomever you support.
May the best team win!
